Paul University History

From humble beginnings to a thriving institution — the story of Paul University's journey since its founding.

Foundation & Early Years

Paul University was founded by the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) as part of the church's long-standing commitment to education in Nigeria. The university received its operating licence from the National Universities Commission (NUC) and began academic activities with a small but determined cohort of students and faculty.

Growth & Development

Over the years, Paul University has grown from a fledgling institution to a respected university with seven faculties and over 35 departments. The university has invested heavily in infrastructure, including modern lecture halls, well-equipped laboratories, a digital library, student hostels, and recreational facilities.

Milestones

Key milestones in the university's history include the accreditation of all programmes by NUC, the establishment of the School of Postgraduate Studies, and the launching of the JUPEB programme. The university has also forged partnerships with institutions across Nigeria and internationally.

Today, Paul University stands as a beacon of academic excellence and moral formation in South-East Nigeria. Our alumni serve in distinguished capacities across various sectors, embodying the values of faith, knowledge, and service that define the Paul University experience.
